Human Practices

As the only high school iGEM team in the Southern Hemisphere, we have a great responsibility to share our knowledge with others and creating a lasting positive impact. This is why our members have worked diligently when it comes to interacting with our community.

TASA is the biggest fishing company in all of South America and the the biggest exporter of fishmeal in the world. Their current practice to meet international standards for heavy metals is to dilute polluted fishmeal. We decided to establish a solid collaboration with TASA to figure out how our team could help, which changed the focus of our project from alleviating mercury contamination to detecting cadmium for this year.

Collaboration with Universidad Cayetano Heredia

Dr. Daniel Guerra and Karen Espinoza from the prestigious university Cayetano Heredia gave advice in how to work with synthetic biology and how to continue the project.
